  1. Elizabeth the First was an important Queen and a strong woman. In my opinion the actress in the film is perfect and she’s good to play the Queen’s part. From the film I understand a lot of the Queen’s psychological characteristics: she’s very strong and determinated and british people love her and support her.
This is very important for a queen to have the respect of all and to stand out. In fact, Elizabeth was the King Henry VII’s illegitimate daughter. Because of this at the beginning she wasn’t accepted by the people and by her father. After, she became the best british Queen and with her the Britain have spent its best period (The Golden Age). The Queen is called the vergin because she has never had a husband. This confirm, first of all, that the Queen is more strong alone too. Always without man’s support she has could to control Britain and make it one of the big European potencies.

  2. The film tells both the history of England during the "Golden Age", the English Renaissance, and the personal history of Queen Elizabeth, the daughter of Henry VIII.
The main character, Elizabeth, is a girl forced to face all the problems of a country in difficulty. The film shows the image of a determined woman with a strong personality, who has dedicated her life to England. The queen lives in solitude, she is alone and unhappy.
For her nature, the queen has a strong character and she gives up lots of things: happiness, the desire to marry someone who will guarantee safety.
She falls in love with Walter Raleigh but then, the man fall in love of the queen’s handmaid. The suffering increases when she discovers the marriage of them without royal consent. She lives in solitude to seem more powerful and more respectable. She devotes her personal happiness to the people of England; she didn't never leave the battlefield but she helps her people to defeat the enemy. I really liked the movie because it helps me to understand the historical period that I'm studying and I like the scenic design.

  4. «I have already joined myself in marriage to a husband, namely, the kingdom of England.»

The quote perfectly sums up Elizabeth’s reign: she fully devoted her life to her kingdom, leading England to a new Golden Age.

The film “Elizabeth: The Golden Age” pivots around Elizabeth the First, Queen of England, seen both as a stateswoman and as a human being - characterized by fear, jealousy and the quest for unattainable love.

Elizabeth’s love and lust for Raleigh, a charming corsair, mixes with England’s ominous, although unforseen faith. Attacked by King Philip II of Spain’s Armada Invincible- the most powerful navy ever built- Elizabeth has to balance and solve her inner struggles to ensure her nation’s safety.

Using rich stage costumes and an evocative soundtrack, the Queen’s inner conflicts and her authoritative political decisions are skilfully portrayed, without ever boring the audience: as it usually happens in historical films, some facts aren’t accurately displayed, but history can make room for poetic license.

The movie Elizabeth: the Golden Age tells about the reign of the English Queen.
Elizabeth I was a very famous Queen. A lot of important events happened while she was reigning. For example, she had a supporting role in the battle against the Invincible Spanish Armada. She gave to England more than 40 years of stability and prosperity.
Talking about her personal life, the Queen never married. She falls in love with the corsair Walter Raleigh, but he was interested by the court lady "Bess”.
During her reign Elizabeth was a different kind of Queen: strong, smart and able to use her power to get her own way.
In the movie this contents are explained clearly. The movie, in fact, was very interesting and useful to know more about the Queen and the historical period.

  10. This film talk about the Elizabethan’s age, that is a period of glory for England. It tells about historical events ,including the war between England and Spain of Philip II of Spain, which finishes in the defeat of the Invincible Army, and the love story between the queen and her corsair Walter Raleigh. In the movies we can see the figure of Elizabeth like a strong and independent woman, ready to rule her kingdom without the need to marry someone.
She dedicates her entire life to England. But when the corsair arrives Elizabeth is in contrast between her desire for happiness and duty toward her people. She will sell to her instinct of jealousy towards her chaperone and Raleigh, making him imprison. But after preval the sense of duty and will release him to win the battle. I like this film because it emphasizes the importance, that a strong woman like Elizabeth has had for England.

  12. This is a very good film. It is formed with a great cast and the actress rappresents "Elizabeth the First" very good. Her rappresentation captures people eyes. But Elizabeth's story is very interesting and exciting. Elizabeth is the heroin for excellence, because English people and her father don't accept her but she has conquered the kingdom with her courage and determination. And she give to England an important age, a Golden Age.

  13. The film "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", tells the conflict between Protestant England and Catholic Spain (ruled by King Philip II), focusing on the figure of the Queen of England Elisabeth l, on her emotions and problems.
In addition to the imminent war Elisabeth faces other problems, she endeed needs to find a man to marry, because if she dies without an heir, the throne will pass to her cousin, Mary, the Queen of Scotland. But her strong nature will bring the England to the victory and in a new period of economic wealth "the Golden Age".
For all the duration of the film the Queen proves to be a determined and strong woman, without king's support she guides the kingdom against one of the largest fletts of that time, the "invincible spanish armada", and puts to death her cousin, Maria Stuarda, involved in an assassination plot.
The film explores also other aspects of Elisabeth's personality, like her remorse for not finding a husband, and her jealousy for her beloved man, an English explorer Walter Raleigh. We can say that Elisabeth sacrifices her life for England.
I liked the film, especially the setting, the soundtrak, the epic scenes and the performance of the characters.

  14. In 1585, Catholic Spain ruled by King Philip II of Spain is the most powerful country in the world.
Only the England's queen, Elisabeth I, goes against the power of this Kingdom.
Queen Elisabeth, called the "Virgin queen" because she has never had a husband  ,is perfectly played by Cate Blanchett, and she is a charismatic, a tenacious and a brave character, who saved England from the Spanish  Armada.
The film is interested in romantic intrigue and sea battles.
In fact the Queen 's attention is  diverted by the arrival in her court of the dashing Sir Walter Raleigh, who has just returned from the New Land with two gifts: the territory of Virginia, which he has named after her in honor of her virginity, and tobacco.
Elizabeth falls in love with him, but in the court, Sir Raleigh seduces and makes love with Elizabeth's favourite lady-in-waiting.
When Elizabeth hears this news, she rises to full fury in an awesome example of regal jealousy.
However, Elizabeth became the leader of England's troops and with an exciting final speech, suitable for one of the best queen's that the story remembers, she brings the England to victory and peace.
I enjoyed this movie very much, because it offers a lot of hystorical informations, but we can think to this film as a hystorical drama, because there are a lot of intrigues and emotions.
I loved the final speech because it makes me feel so excited and the scene is generally epic.
